On Saturday the 12th of October, around fourty TY students took part in the 5k charity fun run in the Phoenix Park. We all signed up for the race the week before and met at the Obelix in the Phoenix Park at 9 am. We all decided to run the race in hilarious costumes which included an inflatable Sumo Wrestle costume, Mario and Luigi costumes and also people dressed up as the main characters from Breaking Bad. I myself wore a guerilla costume (which was increditably tough to walk in) and I was already sweating before the race had begun!
After we got our costumes sorted, we made our way to the start line and the race began at 10 a.m. As I was injured at the the time, I had to walk the race but I still finished with a decent time. After the race, the organisers handed out goody bags and t-shirts to all the runners and thanked everyone for taking part. I really enjoyed the run and I was amazed when we made the front page of the Metro newspaper. Our school had the most runners and I was thrilled to here that CBC were also the one school to run in costumes. It was a great day for a great cause and I would definitely do it again.
On Saturday we went to Phoenix park to compete in a five mile fun run on behalf of the Simon community. The run was very challenging but enjoyable. I finished the race in just over an hour, my highlight being getting a high-five off a Garda-woman upon crossing the finish line. I would recommend to any further fourth years to compete in the run as overall you have a great time and you can raise a lot of money and raise awareness for a good cause. I myself will definitely compete if possible next year as I had a great time and we even got in the newspaper for all our brilliant costumes.
Last Saturday about thirty or more of us ran in the Simon Community fun run. It was held in the Phoenix Park and was five miles long. Me and Eoin P. wore “breaking bad” costumes as it was a fun run and we were recognised a few times on the bus on the way in.
There were thousands of runners at the event but all of us from C.B.C stood out because of our costumes. All of us who started the race finished, with Ciarán H. Finishing first from our school in an impressive time of thirty-four minutes. I was extremely proud of finishing, let alone in fifty minutes, because the costume I was wearing was like a green house and I was sweating loads less than a mile up the road. I finished near the front of our group with a few others including “Walt” my cooking partner. I was very pleased with the day and would love to do it another time.
