I started my social placement in meals on wheels on the 15th of September. Waking up on that Tuesday I felt a mixture of anxiousness and excitement.
As soon as I arrived into the kitchen I was greeted by kind volunteers, who had been cooking since 7 o'clock! Within a couple of minutes all my anxiety was gone.
The volunteers were great help at the start showing us around the kitchen, pointing out where things go. Louis and I helped make the dessert and serve out the main courses into plastic containers. Then we stack up the food and the driver comes and picks it up and puts it in his van, ready for delivery that afternoon.
The most fulfilling part of this social placement for me is giving food to over 90 elderly people who aren't able to make it themselves, it makes you feel as if you are making a difference to each of their lives. I would definitely consider volunteering for this charity in the future.
