We walked up through the village and along the seafront, we took a pit-stop at the beach and sat there for a while. As we got up to leave we were handed different coloured eggs by the teachers, some were red others were plain. The goal was to get the eggs to the end of the walk intact. Of course everyone began to smash each others eggs.
With the smell of raw egg fresh on our hands and clothes we started walking, it was a lovely sunny morning and it was very warm. By the time we reached the foot of Bray head on the Greystones' side everybody needed water and a break.
We then began climbing, it was arduous work but in the end we all made it in one piece, surprisingly at least ten eggs made it also but they were promptly thrown off the mountain.
As we arrived in Bray we all went to the beach and a few people went for a swim. After the swim we were brought to the local chipper where we got some food, this was definitely a highlight and capped off a great day.
After we had all finished our food we were allowed to get the dart back home. My favourite part of the hike was when we were at the top of the hill and we could see all the way up and down the coastline; it was a great view and I had never seen it before.
We started off from Greystones and walked for about 10 minutes until we reached a small beach where we were allowed to sit down and eat if we wanted to. Someone in the year brought an American football, so we decided to play while others went for a swim.
After about half an hour we left and began the hike. It was about a thirty to forty minute walk from where we were to where the base of the mountain trail began. The walk even at this point was a little bit challenging, the path was uneven and slightly uphill.
Just before we started to climb Bray Head we had another stop and a group of people went down to the water for a swim. The weather was really nice and people were tired. The walk up the mountain was really tough, we walked through areas filled with nettles and other bushes. It was a really tough walk and to make it harder for us the teachers brought us up a new route we had to make ourselves.
Some people fell and slipped but luckily no one was hurt. As we climbed, I would frequently look down to see what the area looked like from this high up, the scenery was great.
Once we reached the top, we walked across to the main part of Bray Head, where the statue is. The weather was still really nice and greatly complimented the scenery from the top of the mountain. We started our descent down the mountain, it was very steep but a great challenge. There were trees and rocks along the path so we had to be aware and not just run down or else we would trip and hurt ourselves.
Once we reached the bottom of the mountain, we stopped on a beach where a group of people decided to go into the water for a small swim. I didn't go in as I didn't have a towel or change of clothes. We then finished off the day with a trip to the chipper!!
We met up at Greystones dart station in the morning and then we set off for the hike. Mr Corcoran gave us all an egg for the hike and challenged us to keep it safe until we got to the top. There wasn’t enough eggs for everyone so my job was to try and destroy everybody else’s eggs which was great fun.
The hike was along the coast so the scenery was amazing. When we reached the summit we sat down, ate our lunch and took in the brilliant views of South Dublin and Wicklow.
When we walked down from the mountain we were allowed to go for a swim and the water was nice and cool. We played volleyball in the sea which was great fun. After that Mr Corcoran treated us to a free chicken and chips in the local Bray chipper and I bought the biggest ice cream I've ever seen.
Earlier this year the whole of CBC TY was invited to attend a hike from Greystones dart station all the way to
Bray Head. Once we were on our way Mr Ferguson announced that there would be an opportunity ahead for students and teachers to go swimming, a couple of people got in and went for a swim.
Shortly after, Mr Ferguson and Mr Corcoran told us that there would be a competition. The competition was that there would be two teams, a red team and a blue team each team would be given eggs and the most eggs from one team to reach the top of Bray Head would be the winning team, although a few of them
didn't even make it off the beach that we were given them on!
We set off on a long windy path at the bottom of bray head full of nettles and thorns we were not even
certain that it was a path to begin with!
