We have two Chinese classes a week and we were informed that one class would be learning the Chinese language and the other would be learning the culture of the country. We began by learning the basic greetings of Ni hao (hello) and Ni hao ma (how are you) and believe it or not it took us about three classes to master. We couldn’t grasp how to pronounce it properly. I found it really interesting how some words are completely different if you say it higher at the end or deeper and the end.
In the next class we learned about something that shocked us all. We learned about the Chinese relationship with technology. Believe it or not some Chinese men actually prefer their virtual girlfriends to their real life girlfriends. Crazy!
What I found most difficult about this class was how to draw Chinese characters. Although they look good, to even draw the most simple character took about 3 mins. and it didn't even look like it’s supposed to.
My favourite part of the Chinese module was when we learned how to brush paint. We watched a quick 5 minute tutorial on youtube and our results were outstanding. We all painted perfect pandas!
I have really enjoyed it so far and am looking forward to the coming weeks when we are planning on trying out some Chinese sports including shuttlecock kicking!
